Building this treasure hunt is pretty simple. Get a bin and add some sand, I took mine from our sandbox. Next gather some small items from around your home to hide in the sand. I added a treasure chest (originally from Dollarama) that we owned for added fun.
This is optional, but I wanted to create a card with all of the hidden items so that she knows what she is searching for.
I took a photo of the items laid out and then printed it out on some card-stock paper.
Here are the tools I added for finding the hidden objects; plastic tweezers (Dollar Tree), a mini scoop (Dollar Tree), and a paint brush.
Here is Miss V playing with the treasure hunt bin during her quiet time. She was so excited to play with this and I loved hearing her joyfully exclaim “I found one!” =). In case you were wondering about how we deal with the mess inside, we have a large canvas-type picnic blanket that we lay out during quiet time. It makes clean up much easier.
When she is finished playing, everything fits nicely in these Sterilite storage bins. I purchased them around boxing day at Walmart, a set of 5 for $5.00.
I hope you were inspired by this post. If you liked it, check out my other sensory play ideas =).
